Freightliner Trucks unveils bold new look for Century Class S/T heavy-duty truck

Freightliner Trucks introduces exciting new look for the Century Class S/T heavy-duty truck. The design changes include a newly-styled hood, grille and bumper, which give the truck a bold, new appearance. Along with the styling changes, the newly enhanced Century Class S/T incorporates additional performance benefits like increased cooling capacity and better headlamp light distribution. The changes are designed to further the Century Class S/T's reputation as a leader in North American Class 8 truck technology.

The Century Class S/T (Safety/Technology) truck is the most advanced heavy-duty vehicle in the Freightliner Trucks product line. Available in a 120-inch BBC long conventional configuration, the truck is loaded with advanced systems that increase driver comfort, enhance safety and maximize productivity.

"Freightliner Trucks is very proud to unveil the new-look Century Class S/T along with the additional performance features," said Mark Lampert, senior vice-president, Sales and Marketing for Freightliner Trucks. "The enhancements made to the new Century Class S/T emphasize style and performance and serve to further extend the vehicle's reputation as a technology and productivity leader in the heavy-duty trucking industry."

According to Lampert, the Century Class S/T's new chrome grille provides a flash, new front to the Century Class S/T, enhancing the appearance of the truck. The bolder frontal view was achieved without altering the exceptional aerodynamics or visibility of the original Century Class S/T.

Additionally, the new grille allows for more cooling capacity to accommodate the new, hotter-running 2004 engines. The new grille and lower panel increase the frontal opening to 55% of the total surface area. By opening up the grille, airflow has been improved allowing for excellent cooling performance.

The Century S/T's three-piece bumper has been redesigned and restyled as well. The outside pieces are still manufactured with damage-tolerant plastic, but the center section now comes with an optional chrome package. This, along with the chrome grille, sets off the front of the truck very nicely. Optional inset road lamps and amber accent lights are also available.

Freightliner has improved the headlamp design by replacing the 7-inch round, sealed beams with a new composite headlamp, providing better light distribution on the road and increasing nighttime visibility. The readily-available, industry-standard bulbs are protected by a strong, poly-carbonate lens.
